It is often regrettably said that those who lost their lives few days before the end of the year, are not meant to see the new year. According to the Mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio, 12 people have been killed in a (five-story) Bronx apartment building fire, and a-yr-old child was among those who died in the incident. He made the sad news known in a news briefing. Some other residents of the building sustained serious injuries and they have been hospitalised. The death toll is likely to rise. Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro has said that the fire was caused by a 3-year-old boy who was playing with the burners on his mother’s stove.

The building in which the fire broke out is said to be located very close to the Bronx Zoo. Over 100 firefighters were rushed to the scene to help put the fire under control. Residents in the area have been urged to close their windows to keep out the smoke. Just a few days ago, 70 firefighters were needed to put out the fire outbreak at London zoo.
