According to Nigerian authorities, 258 Nigerians were deported from Libya to Nigeria and they have arrived back home. One of them is said to have sustained a gunshot wound. Bandele Onimode who is the deputy director of the National Emergency Management Agency, said that some of the 258 returnees are suffering from depression as well as malnutrition. Recently, Nigerians suffered xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
It is not that Nigerians like to live in Libya, fact is most Nigerians who travel to Libya use it as a transit route to get to Europe. Furthermore, human traffickers who get paid to smuggle Africans to Europe are mostly based in Libya.
