The coach which was travelling from Mecca on an Umrah pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, was hit by a fuel tanker which caught fire and set the bus alight. This accident resulted in the deaths of four British nationals. Twelve other people were reportedly seriously injured. Among the dead were Raj Begum Hussain, 70, from Blackburn, one elderly man, a mother and her grown-up son, all from Preston, in Lancashire.
Trip organisers Hashim Travel has said that eighteen people were aboard the coach when it crashed and that all of them were taken to hospital due to the gravity of the accident. The people involved in the accident were part of a group which had been in Saudi Arabia for a week due to the Umrah pilgrimage.
