A federal judge blocked Trump’s abortion rule

Today, a federal judge has voided the Trump administration’s so-called ”conscience rule” often referred to as ”Trump’s abortion rule.” If President Trump had his way, his new rule would have allowed health-care providers, doctors, nurses, technicians, etc to refuse to participate in abortions, gender change, sterilizations or other procedures they disagree with based on their personal religious or moral grounds. The rule was set to take effect later this month.

New York Attorney General, Letitia James argued that the rule illegally favored the personal views of health-care workers over the needs of patients and threatened to hobble the ability of state-run health-care facilities to provide effective care.

U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer in Manhattan further declared the “conscience rule” unconstitutional in a 147-page decision stemming from a lawsuit brought by New York and other 20+ states and municipalities.
