Charges against police officers who killed Floyd upgraded

Initially, the officer who intentionally killed George Floyd was charged with third-degree murder. This applies if someone was mistakenly killed. After about 10 days of protest in the U.S, the charge has now been upgraded to second-degree murder. This applies if someone was intentionally killed.

Derek Chauvin, the officer arrested over the killing of George Floyd, will now face an upgraded charge of second-degree murder. Three other officers at the scene last week will now face charges of aiding and abetting second-degree murder. Meanwhile, questions about systemic racism are arising beyond the US. Floyd’s death has sparked protests in many countries all over the world.

The four officers who killed George Floyd all belong to the Minneapolis police and they are

1. Derek Chauvin (The one who pressed his knee to the back of Floyd’s neck.)
2. Tou Thao (The one who prevented the bystanders from helping Floyd.)
3. Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Keung (The two who were holding and pressing Floyd down so that he could not move while he was being killed.)
