Compact with Africa conference held in Berlin

It seems Germany is trying to make good the infamous 1884 Berlin Conference that was aimed at deviding Africa among the colonial masters. German Chancellor Angela Merkel launched the G20 Compact with Africa (CwA) in 2017 during Germany’s G20 presidency with a promise to generate additional private investment in African states. The CwA held a meeting today in Berlin, the capital of Germany.

So far, twelve African countries that have joined the initiative are Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Morocco, Rwanda, Senegal, Togo and Tunisia.

The CwA’s primary objective is to promote private investment and infrastructure in Africa through substantial improvements of the macro, business and financing frameworks.
