The new Zimbabwe President, Emmerson Mnangagwa (75 years old), who was sworn in on Friday, promised to compensate white farmers whose lands were seized by ex President, Robert Mugabe. Although, it is not yet clear if he wishes to compensate the white farmers in cash or kind. However, the possibility of their seized lands to be given back to them is very remote. Mnangagwa also vowed to protect international investments in the country and re-engage with foreign powers.
Mugabe who previously refused to either step down or nominate a successor after ruling Zimbabwe for 37 years surprisingly resigned days after he was arrested by the military.
