Upon taking office as the president of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa promised to compensate the white farmers whose lands were seized by ex President, Robert Mugabe. It was not clear what the compensation would be. Mnangagwa who is trying to revive agriculture in Zimbabwe, has now ordered an end to the intimidation and eviction of farmers, regardless of race, with immediate effect.
He has also ordered that Robert Smart, a white Zimbabwean farmer evicted from his Lesbury Estate farm in the eastern Manicaland province can return back to his farm immediately. Estimated 4 thousand white farmers were evicted under land reforms initiated by ex-President Robert Mugabe.
