The Federal High Court of Abuja has granted conditional bail to Nnamdi Kanu who is the leader of a separatist group known as Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob). Nnamdi Kanu was arrested in Lagos on October 14, 2015 for organizing and mobilizing the Igbos to fight for the creation of Biafra country and independence from Nigeria. He is therefore standing trial on treasonable felony charges.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Kanu was released on grounds of ill health, provided he meets certain conditions. It is widely believed that he agreed to not constitute any kind of public unrest in Nigeria as a prerequisite for his release.
