At the personal request of the Russian President, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov who is one of Putin’s top diplomat arrived at the White House on Wednesday for a short but significant meeting with President Donald Trump. The topic of discussion was expected to include the ongoing concerns about the probe into Russian meddling in the U.S. 2016 election, which has ultimately led to Trump firing the FBI director, James Comey. Lavrov was allowed to meet directly with President Trump instead of meeting with the Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, alone because according to the White House, the U.S. has to deal directly with countries of direct interest despite disagreements.
The U.S. intelligence concluded last year that Russia was behind the meddling in the U.S. election. A move that made Ex-President Barack Obama to impose sanctions on Russia. The Russian Diplomat sent by Vladimir Putin is expected to request that the sanctions be lifted by President Trump.
