Recently, President Donald Trump fired the acting attorney general, Sally Yates for refusing to comply with the president’s travel ban. Now he has abruptly fired FBI director James Comey. Trump’s firing of Comey was reportedly at the recommendation of his Attorney General Jeff Sessions and deputy AG, Rod Rosenstein. Trump did praise Comey during the 2016 U.S presidential election which was won by Trump.
Many believe that Comey was fired because he is overseeing the investigation of Trump’s alleged ties with Russia and he has told Trump on three occasions that he (President Trump) was not being investigated. CNN legal analyst, Jeffrey Toobin, calls Comey’s firing “a dark day in American political history.”
