Why Trump’s Ukraine envoy actually resigned

Kurt Volker, US special envoy to Ukraine, decided to resign and quit the unpaid position just one day after the release of a whistleblower report alleging a coverup by the White House of a call between President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky. Although Volker did not participate in the call, but he was specifically named by the whistleblower in the complaint. He actually resigned because the House Democrats announced plans to interview him with regards to the impeachment inquiry of President Trump.

Volker who began his career in foreign affairs as an analyst at the Central Intelligence Agency in 1986, joined the United States Department of State as a Foreign Service Officer in the United States Foreign Service. He was appointed as the US Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations by the Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on July 7, 2017.

Text messages obtained by Fox News showed Volker and other U.S. officials battling internally over whether Trump was engaged in a quid pro quo with Ukraine as he pressed the country to look into the Biden family, reportedly using $400 million in military aid as leverage during the phone call which is in the middle of the impeachment against president Trump.
